Updating Addresses on Parcels
What is a primary address?
A parcel's primary address is the single address that appears on parcel-based reports such as property tax statements. A parcel may have additional secondary addresses such as with duplexes and apartments. These are just as valid as the primary address. When editing addresses, note that the site address web site will help prevent multiple primary addresses.
To delete a primary address when there are multiple addresses on a parcel, a different address must first be set to primary.

How should apartment complexes be addressed?
For multi-building apartment complexes, an address is needed for the full complex plus the buildings and the units. Assuming a single main entrance, the base address should be the same for the entire complex. Each building should have its own address by adding a building letter to the base address. Then each unit has a building letter and a unique unit number that is unique to the entire complex. Consult local codes or the fire marshal regarding how units in multiple story buildings are numbered.

How do I add multiple apartment units on a parcel?
Numbered address units can be added with a single action by entering a range of numbers. Once the initial address is established (the primary address), click the "clone" button (under Actions). This starts a new address in a pop-up. In the Unit field, add the unit range (i.e., 1-6) then click Save.

Clicking Save results in six new address records added with incrementing unit numbers.

Note that this tool will not work for condominiums because each condo is on a separate Property ID.

How should mobile home addresses be entered?
A mobile home and the land parcel on which it rests both need to have the same address added in the site address database. Normally, duplicate addresses are not allowed but this is an exception.

How do I move an address to a different parcel?
To move an address to a different parcel, click the Update by Property ID button under Actions and you'll be prompted to enter the new property ID. When you click OK, the web page will switch to the property that you are transferring the address to.

Updating Addresses in Subdivisions
How do I enter addresses in a new subdivision or short plat?
This site address web application provides a subdivision specific form for entering addresses by lot number either prior to, or after the subdivision records. Here are some initial steps and things to know...
  • Before addresses can be entered in the subdivision address entry form, GIS Land Records must have the plat, preferably the final plat just before it is recorded. If needed, send a pdf or jpg of the plat map to LandRecords@clark.wa.gov
  • Once GIS Land Records has received a copy of the subdivision plat map, addresses can be entered for each lot.
  • The most common method to plan out the subdivision addresses is to write the house numbers on the lots, either on paper or on a digital copy of the plat.
  • If addresses are entered before the subdivision is recorded, Assessor property IDs will automatically be assigned to the addresses a few days after it records.
  • The Print Subdivision Report tool can create an excel spreadsheet of property IDs, lots, and addresses. (Useful for address notifications.)

Start entering addresses
  1. From the beginning menu on the web site, click Update and choose Subdivision.

  2. Search for the subdivision by name. If it is not found, GIS Land Records may not yet have the plat. (See their email address above.)
Once the subdivision is found, click on it and you will be presented with an address entry form.

  3. Use the Set Defaults tool (highlighted below with red) to pre-populate the address directional, name, type, and ZIP. Enter the specific values and click Apply.
DEFAULT VALUES WILL ONLY BE ADDED TO EMPTY RECORDS. Existing address records will not be impacted.

  4. On the main form, for each lot, enter the house numbers for the specific street name that was populated with the Set Defaults tool.
When done entering house numbers for the specific street, click Update at the bottom of the form.
ONLY ADDRESSES WITH HOUSE NUMBERS WILL BE SAVED.

  5. For the next street name, repeat steps 3 and 4.
The graphic below shows default values being added for the second street name (NE PSEUDO PL) after saving the three addresses for NE Help Section Rd.

How do I add a second address on a lot, such as for a corner lot?
  1. Once an initial address is saved to a lot, use the clone button (circled in green below) on the address record to receive the second address.
Below, the address on lot 60 is cloned and in the pop-up, changed to "2704 NE PSEUDO PL".

  2. The result is two addresses on lot 60.
